Na Kyung-won, from pro-Japanese controversy to prosecution's request for 2 years in prison

Na Kyung-won is a judge-turned-lawmaker who has enjoyed special treatment to her heart's content, with her trial delayed for a whopping six years, from the pro-Japanese controversy to the prosecution's two-year prison sentence request, for no reason. In April 2019, when the Democratic Party of Korea tried to designate the Act on the Establishment of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO) and the quasi-linked proportional representation system as 'Fast Track' items, then-Liberty Korea Party lawmakers were indicted on charges of obstructing special duties by occupying the conference room. Na Kyung-won, then-floor leader of the Liberty Korea Party, is responsible for leading and directing the all-out fight of more than 110 lawmakers. Na Kyung-won, who boasts a mindless tone with no subject with her pretty face, has a characteristic of quietly inciting agitation, but she has no sense of guilt in such words and actions because she has been protected by the law. At 2 p.m. on November 20, we hope that the accumulated karma will return as a prison sentence.

Na Kyung-won is a representative politician of the conservative camp and was once mentioned as a presidential candidate (which means that the country has so few people), but she lost trust due to constant pro-Japanese controversies such as attending the Self-Defense Forces event and remarks about the Special Committee for Anti-National Activities, allegations of private school corruption, allegations of preferential treatment for children's college entrance, and even the National Assembly physical conflict. In the midst of these controversies, when her constituency, Dongjak-eul, was taken over by Representative Lee Soo-jin, Na Kyung-won put up banners in her constituency and acted as if she were the incumbent member of parliament. In principle, this is a violation of the election law. Na Kyung-won's brain, which blatantly exercised her resentment over losing her constituency in a low-dimensional way, was the behavior of a person full of arrogance that her constituency was hers from the beginning. In the neighborhood, there were fights between pro-Na Kyung-won and anti-Na Kyung-won elderly and middle-aged people, and after four years of showing her face here and there and appealing, the shameless Na Kyung-won recovered the ignominious glory of regaining that disgusting position.

Na Kyung-won's pro-Japanese remarks are too repetitive and systematic to be seen as simple political rhetoric. In addition, the allegations related to the private school foundation show the true colors of typical vested interest politics, in which personal interests and political 행보 are intertwined. I am having a hard time understanding why we have not been able to root out the seeds of pro-Japanese politics and have come this far, and how we cannot bridge the gap between the law and the legal sentiment that allows figures like Kwon Seong-dong and Na Kyung-won to continue as incumbent politicians in the 21st century. Even we, who are over sixty, are struggling, but is this society really unaware and turning a blind eye to the fact that the younger generation will not even feel hope or anger?

Therefore, today, September 15, 2025, the prosecution's sentencing request has even greater significance in connection with the controversy over Na Kyung-won's past actions. I would like to interpret it as a self-serving interpretation that goes beyond a simple request for legal punishment and takes on the character of a condemnation of Na Kyung-won's entire political 행보. In order for Korean politics to move forward, it is necessary to fundamentally block politicians with no concept. We must prevent politicians presumed to be remaining Japanese from appearing on the political, social, and cultural stage. It is also necessary to condemn various vested interest groups and religious groups that advocate historical distortion and the protection of vested rights from promoting politicians. We must also thoroughly investigate whether there are any power-related family irregularities involving Na Kyung-won's husband, Kim Jae-ho, the current Chief Judge of the Chuncheon District Court, and Na Kyung-won.

The Na Kyung-won case, which requires a cold assessment and liquidation of politicians who repeatedly evade responsibility, will remain a prime example, and this is significant in that it should leave the right historical awareness and political lessons to future generations. Let's 정리해보겠다 the controversy of Na Kyung-won, who has ignored even their own lifeline of 'trial' for nearly 6 years with the pro-Japanese judicial cartel.

1. The beginning of the pro-Japanese controversy – the Self-Defense Forces event attendance case
In 2004, Na Kyung-won attended the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. This event was a significant incident that sparked pro-Japanese controversy in his political career. At the time, Na Kyung-won explained that he 'did not know the nature of the event,' but later media reports revealed that he was aware of the nature of the event, and many pro-Japanese figures, including Ban Ki-moon, do the same. The Japan Self-Defense Forces is an organization that grew due to the special circumstances of the Korean War, and it was difficult for the public to accept that a Korean member of parliament would attend a ceremony celebrating its founding. In the end, Na Kyung-won's explanations were almost always lies, which became a decisive factor in shaping his pro-Japanese image.

2. Controversy over the Special Committee for Anti-National Activities' Remarks and Historical Views
In 2019, Na Kyung-won stated, "The people were divided due to the Special Committee for Anti-National Activities after liberation." This was received as a nuance that denied the legitimacy of the Special Investigation Committee for Anti-National Activities, which was created to liquidate pro-Japanese factions. It is a historical fact that pro-Japanese forces maintained power and economic power after liberation, damaging national legitimacy. Although the activities of the Special Committee for Anti-National Activities were an attempt to correct this, Na Kyung-won rather pointed to it as the cause of national division. This statement immediately led to strong criticism of 'pro-Japanese advocacy' and re-emphasized the historical perception problem of conservative politicians.

3. Statement that "Pro-Japanese collaborators also worried about the country"
Ahead of Liberation Day in 2020, Na Kyung-won said, "Pro-Japanese collaborators must have had their own concerns for the country." This was interpreted as glorifying the pro-Japanese forces who betrayed the nation and cooperated in the war of aggression during the Japanese colonial period, and sparked strong criticism that it insulted the sacrifices of patriotic martyrs and independence activists. Afterwards, Na Kyung-won's pro-Japanese image became even more solidified, with nicknames mixed with ridicule such as 'native Japanese' and 'Nabe'.

4. Controversy over the expression "Our Japan"
The most symbolically talked about of Na Kyung-won's remarks is the expression 'Our Japan'. A South Korean member of parliament referring to Japan as 'Our' was criticized as an incident that clashed with national identity. Many pointed out that this was not a simple mistake, but rather a manifestation of the pro-Japanese consciousness ingrained in her. Since then, Na Kyung-won's pro-Japanese image has not been easily erased from the public's perception.

5. Allegations of Corruption in Private School Foundations
Hongshin Academy, run by the Na Kyung-won family, has long been embroiled in various corruption allegations. Allegations that the academy's assets were leased to a kindergarten run by the family at a price far lower than the market rate, and the fact that billions of won in statutory contributions were unpaid became problematic. In addition, the incident in which Na Kyung-won's father, while serving as principal, illegally incinerated five years' worth of accounting books led to a violation of the Private School Act. At the time, Na Kyung-won was already serving as a director and showed political moves against the revision of the Private School Act. This has drawn criticism that it is an act to protect the private interests of the private school foundation. Private school foundations of pro-Japanese factions are one of the long-standing corruptions in the Korean education system. The liquidation of pro-Japanese remnants can only return to national education if this private school foundation is recovered.

6. Allegations of Favoritism in Daughter's College Admission
The allegations of unfair admission of Na Kyung-won's daughter to Sungshin Women's University, which have been raised since 2016, have caused a significant social impact. The media and civic groups pointed out that the admission process was unfair, and the Sungshin Women's University's own audit also revealed procedural problems. The court also ruled that "favoritism cannot be justified." In addition, allegations were raised that Na Kyung-won's influence was exerted in the selection process for the artistic director of the Pyeongchang Special Olympics. However, this case did not ultimately lead to admission cancellation or legal punishment. In the days when political influence and the prosecution's cartel were strong, they must have had a heartwarming time taking care of each other.

7. Political Attitude and Irresponsibility
Na Kyung-won's political remarks pattern is summarized as consistent avoidance of responsibility. Even though the 'Anti-National Activities Investigation Committee remarks' and the expression 'Our Japan' caused national antipathy, instead of apologizing, she confronted it with conspiracy theories, claiming it was "manipulation by anti-state forces under North Korean orders." In addition, there were many evaluations that she showed opportunistic behavior in the party primary and presidential election process. The appearance of placing more weight on private interests and maintaining power than on political philosophy or values shows a psychopathic way of thinking that completely ignores the legal sentiments and common legal sense of the general public.

8. ‘National Assembly Fast Track Clash Incident’
Regarding the incident in which lawmakers and party officials of the Liberty Korea Party (now People Power Party) occupied the National Assembly conference hall and caused physical clashes during the fast track designation process in 2019, the prosecution today, September 15, 2025, demanded a two-year prison sentence for Representative Na Kyung-won. The prosecution determined that Representative Na Kyung-won, as the floor leader at the time, actively directed and led the clashes. Former Liberty Korea Party lawmakers and officials who were tried together were also sentenced to prison terms and fines, respectively. This sentence is not only a legal responsibility for the past National Assembly physical force situation, but also a result of the social evaluation of Na Kyung-won's overall political attitude, and in fact, it seems to include the tangible and intangible evaluations taken during her five terms. It is unknown what kind of ruling the court will ultimately make, but a two-year prison sentence is bound to be a decisive blow to the extension of her political life. In a word, I want to interpret it as meaning that she has had enough, so she should stop.
