National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, who is mocking the people

2025. 04. 07
Woo Won-sik, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Rebuilding Korea Party, which does not have a single constituency member, held emergency press conferences with a time difference. In the meantime, Yoon did not think of leaving the official residence and issued a statement through his lawyer saying, "I will stay by your side." Far from having a plan to leave the official residence where they were holding a sit-in, they once again mocked the majority of the people with remarks that stimulated the scattered far-right. This is the reality of our politics two days after being dismissed. A sigh came out automatically.
The position of Speaker of the National Assembly is the highest position that a politician, who is not a presidential candidate, can enjoy as the head of the legislative branch. Historically, Speakers of the National Assembly usually retire from politics after completing their terms. That's how high the status of the position is. Even if Korean law is for the inner circle of the cartel, it is an honor to be a five-term member of the National Assembly in Korea. However, Woo Won-shik has turned the position of Speaker of the National Assembly into a brazen position, a shield for insider politics, and stabbed the people in the back.
On the night of the insurrection, he stood out as the Speaker of the National Assembly who climbed over the wall, and as public opinion praised him, the foolish masses, echoing each other, helped him, which dispelled the suspicion that he was usually a cabinet system watermelon, and it was thought that he ran with the people until the impeachment. However, he was a spy who sided with Moon Jae-in and the watermelons' claim for a cabinet system. His small, thin lips revealed his insides in just two days. In fact, he is a person who cannot be trusted to do his own politics. He was arrested and imprisoned for opposing the Chun Doo-hwan regime and was expelled from Yonsei University. He has the title of a labor activist who went through a bookstore owner and a publishing house editor, but he is not a person with clear achievements for the people and the country. In 2010, after 15 years of applying for separated families, his mother, Kim Jeong-rye (born in 1917), attended at the age of 96 and met her daughter after 60 years of separation, and Woo Won-sik met his sister, whom he had never seen. The fact that a person who knows the sorrow of separated families who were imprisoned because of Chun Doo-hwan and separated due to the 38th parallel is talking about constitutional amendment just two days after the dismissal of Yoon, the leader of the insurrection, is evidence that he is completely ignorant of Korea's modern and contemporary history, and that politics itself has become the purpose of an outdated politician. Now is the time to liquidate politicians like Woo in this land, regardless of party.
I don't know the details of why six-term lawmaker Choo Mi-ae became the Speaker of the National Assembly. In fact, it is also a problem that there are not many politicians within the Democratic Party who have a philosophy or conscience that reveres the people. While the party's goals are not unified and each person is doing their own politics, even when only a few lawmakers were running around hoarsely for the impeachment of Yoon, Woo was just putting on a tie show, calling it pearls before swine, and scolding an opposition lawmaker who was arguing with the same Kwon Seong-dong. In fact, this scene before the impeachment was cited was the day Woo Won-shik's stance was clearly revealed.
Woo Won-shik, who proposed holding a constitutional amendment referendum on the presidential election day, preparing even undercooked rice cakes for the people who like even the unappetizing Constitutional Court's ruling rice cakes because they are too steamed, and advocated for decentralization of power and national unity. However, its actual content seems to be a reorganization of the power structure, including a cabinet system. This is a problem that the majority of the people find difficult to accept, and the bigger problem is that Woo does not recognize the pile of tasks that need to be resolved after the impeachment. It wasn't that the Constitution was bad that the Constitutional Court was established, nor was it that the Constitutional Court took so long to deliberate because there were few grounds for impeachment that they didn't even know whether the cherry blossoms were blooming or falling. The situation where all the institutions of the country and the former president, Moon, who is Yoon's political father, are trying to do their own politics, is just that even the Speaker of the National Assembly revealed today that the people were meaningless.
I sternly warn the forces pushing for a cabinet system amendment. This is a unilateral idea with absolutely no national consensus and cannot be tolerated! Opinion polls clearly show this. The people want a decentralized presidential system or a presidential system, and the parliamentary cabinet system receives only a meager 20% support. If you properly know the history of the cabinet system, it is a sin to even utter it. Western Europe is collapsing with this cabinet system, and the Japanese are collapsing by adopting this system. When global politics is trying to emulate Korea's democratic system, the small mouth of Woo Won-shik, who is talking about the cabinet system, a product of modern imperialism, is not his own thought alone. The influence of the United States and Japan, Moon Jae-in, and further, former call girls, must have also played a role.
Pushing forward with a proposal so far removed from the will of the majority of the people is a serious challenge to democracy. In particular, public trust in the National Assembly and the political sphere has hit rock bottom after the recent political turmoil and state of emergency. In this situation, pushing for a cabinet system is nothing more than an act of blatantly ignoring the sovereignty of the people. Politicians of the Republic of Korea, your desire for a parliamentary cabinet system is already a shallow chatter that is visible to the public. If you can no longer hide that your desire for a cabinet system is not for the people but for your own vested interests and political survival, then try coming out like Uga.
In Korea, the transition to a cabinet system is absolutely unacceptable, even in a historical context. The cabinet system is a political system that pro-Japanese political forces and pro-Japanese factions preferred in the past to maintain their vested interests. The cabinet system is a structure in which members of the National Assembly elect the prime minister, rather than the people directly electing the leader, and ultimately power is reorganized through secret deals and collusion among political elites. This is no different from creating a structure in which pro-Japanese vested interest groups and their descendants can continue to maintain political influence. In addition, the political inheritance problem that is prevalent in Korean politics today will be further exacerbated under the cabinet system. In a situation where the inheritance of politicians' children is already a problem in each political party, switching to a cabinet system will accelerate political inheritance that is beyond the direct control of the people. The cabinet system is highly likely to degenerate into a system in which existing political vested interests pass on their power and weaken public oversight and control.
In a situation where passing down a seat in the National Assembly to one's children is rampant, as if it were a family business, a cabinet system will only solidify this hereditary politics further. Under a cabinet system, lawmakers with solid constituency bases and their children will be able to inherit political power even more easily. In the end, it will only strengthen the cartel of political elites, not the monitoring and checks of the people, so would any citizens agree? The desire for a cabinet system stems from politics that evade responsibility, not politics that take responsibility. Under a presidential system, one person clearly takes responsibility, but in a cabinet system, responsibility is dispersed, ultimately leading to a result where no one takes responsibility. It can only be seen as a deceptive attempt by vested-interest politicians to evade responsibility for political failures. Chairman Woo Won-shik, wake up. If you had properly read and studied the torn mountains and rivers of the fatherland that your parents and your sister experienced, you would not dare to utter such words. Now is not the time to discuss constitutional amendments.
The top priority now is not constitutional amendment, but the complete liquidation of insurrectionary forces and far-right political forces. A thorough investigation and punishment of Yoon Seok-yeol and Kim Keon-hee and their cohorts must be prioritized. The extreme confrontation and conflict that continues even after impeachment and dismissal cannot be resolved without decisive legal action against them. The process of dissolving the People Power Party, a far-right force, must begin immediately, and severe punishment for insurrectionary forces must be prioritized. As specified by the Constitutional Court, parties that violate the democratic basic order must be dissolved, and this is the path to truly safeguarding democracy.
The so-called 'watermelon' factions within the Democratic Party must reflect on themselves and disappear into the annals of history. Some factions within the party, pushing for a cabinet system, are completely ignoring the will of the people and pursuing only their own political interests. They must immediately stop discussing opportunistic power structure reorganization and strive for genuine national unity and the restoration of democracy. At the end of the next government, we need to prepare for the reunification of North and South Korea, not discuss constitutional amendments. I ask whether these politicians, who do not know what is important at all, have ever thought about the tired people even once. They must remember that the sovereignty of this country rests solely with the people. The Republic of Korea is not just a country for politicians, but a country for the people of the Republic of Korea. Our people will no longer tolerate politicians' arbitrary power struggles.
What the people demand is genuine politics. The people do not want political engineering or power struggles again. What is needed now is to unite the divided public opinion and restore the wounded democracy. It should start with the attitude of the entire political community taking responsibility before the people, not with the reorganization of the power structure for politicians called 'checks and balances' by Woo Ga. Now, punishing insurrectionary forces, liquidating far-right politics, and reforming the Democratic Party internally are more urgent than constitutional revision discussions. The political community must listen to the voices of the people and restore trust through sincere actions.
After December 3rd, or rather, after the night of March 9th, 2022, the decline of the domestic economy was pushing the Korean economy, which had been built up until now, back 80 years. Woo Won-sik, who started by mocking the people who barely wanted to stretch their legs and sleep with the plan to investigate Yoon, who was dismissed with belated regret, if he truly feels that 'checks and balances' are necessary, step down from the Speaker's position. 6-term Choo Mi-ae is much more suited for the position.
